First jaquard-woven fabric. I got the idea for the geometric forms from looking at quilts, but I this is more like a shattered quilt. It's all the same parts, but they have a totally different energy... it's constructed quite differently. I've never quilted before, but like hand weaving and painting, it's a hands on process. There is a really wonderful thing that happens with painting that I began to feel cheated out of when I realized I had to make my work on an industrial loom. Consequently my work often hinged on disaster trying to see how much latitude I could make for myself with the machine.
