"worth the stroll"
It was a bright day, so the images are a little washed out.

The sides are covered in the same color as the building, so you get a surprise as you round the corner.

The whole structure went up in a day-I got there around noon, and they had just put the awning on. It's just like stretching a canvas!

Territories
I began working on an awning for Latitude restaurant a few weeks ago. I liked the idea of working from images of aerial views of topography as a play on the idea of collage-spaces that are relative to one another, but significantly different. Latitude began as a California-french restaurant, so the idea of expansiveness beyond one particular set of conditions was important. The juxtaposition of shapes and textures creates interesting relationships that question the identities of each space, and that create a new textural landscape when combined. While the final design was formal, the exercise got me thinking about the possibility of using more recognizable imagery.

(I will upload the paintings soon)
